Michael D Smith, MD is a board certified Radiation Oncologist. Dr Smith completed his undergraduate education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He then was awarded his MD at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Following completion of his residency training,
Dr Smith became a faculty member in Radiation Oncology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville TN. While at Vanderbilt, Dr Smith served on national committees and assisted in the development of national protocols in the treatment of cancer.
Following his time at Vanderbilt University, Dr Smith has devoted his efforts to private practice. He has spoken extensively at innumerable community support groups such as the Komen Foundation Relay for Life for breast cancer survivors and the Us Too support group for men with prostate cancer.
Dr Smith has served as Chairman for the Tarrant County (Ft Worth) unified Institutional Review Board for the deployment of research trials in the community setting and has started developed several community hospital Tumor Boards. One of Dr Smith’s guiding principles is to bring high quality academic medicine to the local community. Simply stated, there is no need to travel to a big city to receive cutting edge medical care.
In his free time, Dr Smith enjoys traveling and scuba diving. He is always on the lookout for the next exciting project!
